Shamu In Hawaii...

So we got a phone call this morning about the Orca that was beached. So Ty and I jumped in the car and headed down to get a good look at it. Unfortunately by the time we got there they had cleared the beach and put up lots of police lines, so we couldn't get as close as others did. (I wish you could all see Karen & Brady's pictures of it, they were super close). Anyways, here are a few pics of what we got. The coast Gard was there too. This picture Ty took himself, its actually pretty good. Its tummy was all cut up from the rocks it kept hitting into. The sad thing was they could not save it because it was sick, so they had to put it to sleep So this picture they are lassoing the tale to pull it up onto the beach. It took lots of guys, after all they do weigh 3000lbs Getting her shoot to go to sleep. And the final big pull onto the beach before we left. The story is, she was sick that is why she was beached. Usually if they get beached and are not sick then her clan would be waiting for her out in the water, but there was no sign of them, and there were sharks swimming all around waiting for a bit. They put her to sleep so that they could do testing to see what made her sick. Other wise they would have tried to make her better and then let her go. Poor little whale. I guess its life. I do have to say I was a little weirded out that I was seeing a real live whale, that was not at sea world. There really are those creatures in the ocean, and not just and attraction for us to see at a theme park. This world is amazing, all the creatures that our Heavenly Father has created. Just as a side note, these kinds of wheals are not common in Hawaiian waters, they are more of a cold water whale. So it was a big deal that we saw it!!!

How sad. But that's cool that you got to see it. Once in a lifetime, I'm sure.
