Wailua Falls

On sunday we went for a fun little drive up to Wailua Falls. It is the easiest water fall to see on the Island, it took only 5-10min to drive to it, and then all you do is park and look over the edge. The story on this one is kinda interesting. In ancient (and occasionally modern) times, men would jump off the top of the falls to prove their manhood. Which was often left on the rocks below. This test was often fatal. On maps it lists the falls as only being 80ft. But there was a man who reciently did a test on the falls to meausure exactly the height. The result was amazing, it measured 173 feet of solid drop. That is actually taller than Niagara Falls (but Niagara has a tad more water flowing from it) The pool of water below is about 33 feet deep. They found this out by scuba diving it to measuse and see what was under the falls. They found 14" long mouth bass swimming, and some giant shrimp(with bodies up to 8" long). Those are some big shrimp if you ask me. They found some rental car keys, bolt cutters, and cane knife, with other odds and ends. Its pretty neat to see, and it is pretty High. The pictures don't quite show exactly, but you can see some people playing in the pool of water below!
